About Me
Therapist, writer, and nervous system educator helping people move from overwhelm to steadiness — one small step at a time.
Hi, I’m Jessica.
Therapist. Writer. Recovering perfectionist.
Lifelong overthinker learning how to live with more joy and ease.
My Work
I’m the founder of Mindshift Counseling, a telehealth therapy practice serving clients in New York, Minnesota, and Texas, and the co-founder of Calm & Strong, a wellness method that integrates mind, body, and story.
My Experience
For more than twenty years, I’ve helped people navigate stress, trauma, and burnout using practical tools grounded in science, lived experience, and a healthy dose of humor.
My Approach
My work blends evidence-based practices like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Polyvagal Theory with real-life application — translating complex psychology into tools people can actually use.
Clients often describe me as
“the therapist next door”
— grounded, relatable, and real.
Why This Work Matters to Me
I didn’t discover nervous system tools in a textbook.
I found them while searching for relief from my own insomnia, anxiety, and relentless overfunctioning. Years of perfectionism and caretaking eventually pushed me to my limit.
Instead of pushing harder, I learned to slow down and listen to what my body had been trying to tell me all along.
That shift changed everything and now it guides the way I work with clients, write, and teach.
This philosophy also shapes my writing, including my forthcoming book,
The Power of Small:
Tiny Changes, Big Transformation.
Life Beyond the Therapy Room
I live in Minnesota with my husband and two teenage sons.
When I’m not writing or seeing clients, you’ll usually find me curled up with a book, sitting at a hockey rink, petting my dog Johnny, or dreaming up new ways to bring beauty, balance, and connection to every day life.
